Welcome to the March Newsletter and I hope you are enjoying this time of year when we see the signs of Spring around us. In April and May we have planned return visits to Middlethorpe Hall Gardens and Bridgewater RHS Gardens with booking forms included with this Newsletter and on the website (Login required).

If you are intending to participate in any of our Walks, please read our latest note (available here) which gives details of how our future Walks will be organised and run.  Please note, in particular, that Members wishing to take part in our walks must inform the Walks leader of their names and mobile telephone numbers so that the numbers of walkers may be known and recorded prior to the start of the walk.

What's in our March Newsletter?

MEMBERSHIP (Page 4)

Over the past three months we have welcomed three new members to YANT bringing our total membership to 411. Thank you to all our members for your support.


53rd AGM, TALK and LUNCH (Page 4)

Our 53rd AGM will be Saturday 23rd March 2024 followed by a Talk to be given by Mary Murrey - “When the Queen came to Lunch”.

HOLIDAY (Page 5)

There is still time to book for all our 2024 holidays. Do have a good look at the 2024 holiday brochure included with the September Newsletter or see full details on the Holiday page of this website.



DROP IN LUNCHES (Page 5)

Drop In Lunches will be held on the third Tuesday each month in the Theatre Royal's Upper Foyer. Dates for the next three months are on Page 5 of the Newsletter and also on our Calendar.


TALKS (Page 6)

Our March and April Talks will be:

“When the Queen came to Lunch”  on Saturday 23rd March (following the YANT AGM) at the Delta by Marriott Hotel, Tadcaster Road.

“I am Anthony Day and I keep Bees” on Saturday 20th April.

To be held in the Marriott Room, York Central Library, Museum Street starting at 2.30pm.

DAY TRIPS (Pages 7 and 8)

We have two Day Trips planned for April and May. Middlethorpe Hall Garden Visit and Cream Tea on Wednesday 17th April and RHS Bridgewater on Wednesday 15th May. Full details on Page 7 of the Newsletter and on the Day Trips page of our website.



WALKS QUIZ NIGHT (Page 9)

The Walks Group Social Evening and Quiz Night will be held at the New Earswick & District  Bowls Club, Huntington Road, York on Friday 15th March 2024. Full details on the Walks page.



HALF DAY WALKS (Pages 9 TO 11)

Half Day Walks have been arranged for March, April, May and June. Full details are available on the Walks Page.


HOLIDAY REVIEW (Pages 12 and 13)

Christmas in Liverpool

5th and 6th December

The Albert Docks, the Shakespeare Theatre, the top of the Liver building, Liverpool tour and Christmas lunch!

SANDHAM MEMORIAL CHAPEL (Pages 17 and 18)

Holiday Photographs and Reviews


Reviews and photographs of our 2023 holidays to the Peloponnese, Bath & Wells, the Grand Houses and Gardens of Northern Ireland and the Christmas visit to Liverpool and Shakespeare North Playhouse are now available on the 2023 Holiday page (Login is required for these pages). A big thank you to all our members who review our holidays and let us use their photographs.


INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTION FEES


Since our last increase in subscription fees, our admin and running costs have risen, especially over the last year e.g. printing costs, hall/room hire, fuel prices, postage rates. Following a discussion and vote at the Annual General Meeting in March, it was agreed to increase the membership subscription fees. These increases will come into effect for 2025.

Individual membership will increase from £8 per person to £10.

Family membership (YANT members living at the same address) will increase from £14 to £18.


If you pay by standing order, please contact your bank and increase your payment to the relevant amount, due on 4 Jan 2025


Things we have done in the past (and are starting to do again)

Day Trips
Some excellent Day Trips have been arranged, throughout previous Summers, to houses, castles and gardens in Yorkshire, Durham, Northumbria, the Lake District, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Trips are already available for this year.

Holidays
The YANT Holidays Group's 2023 holidays were to Greece, Bath & Wells and Northern Ireland. You can see photographs and reviews of the holidays on the 2023 Holidays page (Login required) and details of all forthcoming and past holidays here.

Social
We organise Social events for the enjoyment of our members, with any profits from these activities going to the National Trust. See the Fundraising page for details of past donations made in conjunction with the Day Trips, Holidays and Walks Groups.

Walks
Barnetby-le-wold; From Captain Cook's Monument to Roseberry Topping; Saltburn; Farndale Daffodil walk; Gunnerside along the Corpse Road and the North York Moors. Just some of the short and long walks completed by the Walks Group. Full details of future Walks can be seen here.
